DJ Joey Joe
I'm DJ Joey Joe (I've had a few other names way back in the day), I fashioned my name after one of my favorite hip hop djs & producer (back in the day) which happened to be Marley Marl at the time. I grew up a fiend of music since I was small, I've been DJing (and producing) on a small scale for too long. I started out as a rapper when everybody wanted to be The Furious Five, Run DMC, Fat Boys, & LL Cool J. and after a while I was making pause mixtapes & beats to listen/rhyme to then later on when I would hear the local djs on the radio mix on the weekends (DJ Al, Wiggy Fresh, DJ Eclipse, DJ Prince Ice, & etc). Later on I ended up learning how to mix, blend, and dj with cassettes & worked my way up to turntables. While still being more of an emcee but needed beats to rhyme to I focused on the music the less I rhymed & the more I got into spinning, scratching, mixing (thanks to my cousin who kept me interested in it) and then later on I found out about college radio which introduced me into "underground hip-hop" & "techno". I use to go to NYC to visit relatives & when I checked out the shows that was on there I was impressed what Mr. Magic, Marley Marl, Red-Alert, Timmy Regisford, Chuck Chillout, Funkmaster Flex, & etc. was playing & their mixes. I've been spinning (hip-hop & reggae) for and at parties since 1994 (would love to spin on the radio if I get the chance) but I have been mixing personal mixtapes for even longer (circa 1990). I've been into house music for a long time too but didn't start spinning/mixing it until the late 90's but I still love underground hip-hop too. I'm a vinylholic, even though I have tons of cds & cassettes, I still crave & seek music on vinyl more than any other format.
